Offering of the Soul

My Lord, please keep me happy and then help me

To stop doing those things which make all unhappy:

Ignore the personal pain and all suffering will flee,

There is only one bliss and it is in Thee! . . . . . . . . . .

If He likes the night, then you know that that's right.

If the forest is His home, then the city leave alone.

Make your footprints match His, pace your steps carefully,

Never wander away: follow His path only . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Make your choice the same as His; that's your duty, yes it is!

Always love one another, never work to hurt your brother.

Become the lamp's wick and then burn brightly,

Or if He is like the ice, then you freeze instantly . . . . . . . . .

If He becomes the breeze, then move everywhere with ease.

When your heart blossoms with glee, spread this fragrance heavenly.

If He is the water floating like a ship you'll be

And you'll turn when he turns upon the open sea. . . . . . . . . .

Your whole being to Him give, in His shelter you will live.

Keep your actions clean and pure, bow each day as love's gesture.

Become "Kripalu's" flute and play it endlessly,

Make your tune match His mind's tune, keep in full harmony . . . ..

Viniti Muniji spent many days with Leela in 1983 going over each bhajan with word for word translations and then explaining any grey areas. Later after returning to America Leela crafted these bhajans to fit the meaning and melodies.
